| Tommy and Jimmy, ages 10, and 8, respectively, wanted to have their own knives to play with. "Where will we get knives from?",wondered Tommy. "Let us pray to the Lord, and ask him to send us Jackknives from heaven ", answered the other boy. So they went to the barn and started praying,Oh Lord, please send down two Jackknives from heaven: Amen.. This went on for a while until their father passing the barn heard them. He went and bought two Jackknives and tossed them into the barn. One of the knives landed on the forehead of one the boys, but the pain he felt was small compared to the joy of having his prayer answered. |
| Soon after, Dave-Ricky, from next door, came to play, and the boys wasted no time in showing off their heaven-sent gifts. As expected, Dave-Ricky also wanted something from heaven, but the shocking thing is he didn't want a knife. He wanted a sleigh. Tommy stared in astonishment, and then with a doubtful look he said"When the lord sent down the knives, one of them hit me on my forehead. Now, if that was a sleigh, my neck would've broke". He looked at Dave-Ricky, beggingly, and said "Please ask for something smaller". But Dave-Ricky was adamant he wanted nothing else than a sleigh, and if they couldn't get him one, he was through with religion. |
| So again they went to the barn, somewhat fearfully, but they prayed, Oh Lord, please send down a Sleigh for Dave-Ricky: Amen!. This went on for a long time, but nothing happened, and Dave-Ricky left being very angry. At dinner, the boys were silent, and their father noticed and questioned what happened. They explained that they prayed to the Lord and got Jackknives but the Lord did not send a sleigh for Dave-Ricky and he was upset. |
| The next morning the boys went to the barn and were surprised to find in one corner of the barn, a brand new Sleigh. It was painted in bright red and yellow, and they marvelled at it's beauty. "Where do you suppose this came from?"Tommy asked, as he turned the sleigh over to further admire it. "Why, heaven, of course!", Jimmy answered excitedly. "But, it says here 'Buy of Charley Bell Hardware, 20 Main St.'.continued the older boy, reading from a sticker on the underside of the sleigh. "Well!"Jimmy challenged, " it's not for us to question. For all we know it may be at Charley Bell's, that the Lord trades". |
